How to Convert an mp3 to a Midi Drum Track or Drum Loop using DXT-1 for macOS

This past week I vibe coded this cool macOS app that will take an mp3 and convert it either into a full midi drum track, or a shorter repeating drum loop that you can jam over. I built this for myself because I bought this Behringer RD-8 drum machine to jam along with on my guitar, but I’m too lazy (or too stupid) to program the drum parts. Unfortunately, the RD-8 (and the 808 that it copies) doesn’t come with any preset drum parts. So essentially, I wanted to add that feature to my drum machine, I wanted an 808 with preset drum tracks I could just jam to.

So with the help of ChatGPT & Codex, I vibe coded this cool macOS program called DXT-1 that will take an mp3, and either transcribe the drum part for the entire song, or try to extract a repeating drum loop pattern, into midi format that you can play on your drum machine by plugging a cable into your drum machine and attaching it to your MacBook via USB.
